DJ Kenzhero
v
DJ | Promoter | Event & music producer
Kenneth Bekizizwe Nzama was born in 1976, during the youth uprising against apartheid. Starting out as a DJ at poetry events in 1998, DJ Kenzhero was brought to life. He has never been a DJ in the classic sense of the word, though.
His unique style, combining hip-hop, soul, funk and jazz, invites listeners to give ear to the history of music, as the sound flows from one genre to the other. His talents extend being a club DJ to writing scores for TV dramas and assisting with production on local artists’ albums. He has even performed in Marius Basson’s theatre production – a remake of Shakespeare’s ‘Two Gentlemen of Verona’.
DJ Kenzhero has shared a stage with local and international artists and DJs such as Mos Def, Freshly Ground, Dead Pres, Dwele, Bahamadia Max Normal, Tumi and the Volume, Questiove Of The Roots, DJ Premier and DJ Bobbito, to name a few. He has featured at Oppikoppi, Rocking the Daisies, the Macufe festival and the Standard Bank Jazz Fest, and he produced the MTV African world AIDS event.
This is one remarkable DJ with a remarkable story.
